KANNAPOLIS, N.C. — In the handsome, two-story brick house on the edge of Carolina exurbia, the lights burn late.
Jeff and Jody Seager have three ballplaying kids. This season, Corey was in Los Angeles, Justin in Bakersfield, Kyle in Seattle. That means game time is 10 or 10:30 p.m EDT.
“Two TVs and a computer,” Jeff said on a late July evening, with the boys three time zones away in pregame work.
Basement closets bulged with the bats, gloves and scarred-up tools of three ex-adolescents. Schedules are cross-checked and airline fares are evaluated.
Jeff, who played at Fairleigh-Dickinson University in New Jersey, threw batting practice for Corey at the Home Run Derby in San Diego this season.
