def: short·stop/u02c8SHôrtu02ccstäp/ noun BASEBALL a fielder positioned between second and third base. The position is called a “stop,” the word “short” merely describes his physical stature; stops are always short
Of course, that is not the real definition of “shortstop,” but since I am on such a sarcastic roll, why stop? Corey Seager is a 6′ 4″ tall, 215-pound shortstop, and after all, everyone knows that players that tall can’t play SS. Everyone knows that you have to be 5′ 8″ or something close to that to play shortstop in MLB. There has never been a player above 6′ 2″ to play SS… except these:
- Cal Ripkin – 6′ 4″
- Alex Rodriguez – 6′ 3″
- Derek Jeter – 6′ 3″
- Manny Machado – 6′ 3″
- Jordy Mercer – 6′ 3″
- Troy Tulowitzki – 6′ 3″
- … and a whole lot more!
