Clayton Kershaw placed on disabled list with lower back strain

Clayton Kershaw was placed on the 10-day disabled list on Friday with a lower back strain, just one day after making his first start in four weeks.

Kershaw already missed 29 days with left biceps tendonitis but was activated to start Thursday’s series finale against the Phillies at Dodger Stadium. He pitched five innings and allowed just one run, relying heavily on his offspeed pitches thanks to a fastball that averaged just 89.08 mph during the start.

He did not make the trip to Denver with the team. He had an MRI in Los Angeles on Friday.
