LOS ANGELES >> The Dodgers are in the final stages of trading veteran catcher Carlos Ruiz to the Seattle Mariners, a move that will allow them to essentially get something for an asset they no longer planned to use.
The trade has not been confirmed by either team but the Dodgers are expected to receive a minor-leaguer in return for the 37-year-old Ruiz who has to agree to waive no-trade protection in his contract before the deal can be finalized. The Mariners will then pick up the option in his contract that guarantees him a $4.5 million salary in 2017.
