Having just finished sprinting around the Corona del Mar High School track recently, 9-year old Fiona Dandler, a member of the Cal Coast Youth Running program, was asked what she likes most about the sport of running.
“It’s more free,” Fiona said. “You just go.”
While it may be a few years too soon to know whether Fiona, or the dozens of other youngsters on the Sea Kings’ track, have a shot to one day set a world record in the 100-meter dash, there was no question they were enjoying the workout.
Under the umbrella of the renowned Cal Coast Track Club, founded by CDM track coach and running guru Bill Sumner, the Youth Running Program is geared for children ages 8-14 of all levels and abilities.
