It’s easier to make a definitive statement about Brandon Beachy’s Dodgers debut from a sports medicine perspective than a baseball perspective.
Beachy had pitched five major-league games in the last three years prior to Saturday, surrounded by two Tommy John surgeries on his right elbow. The first surgery, in June 2012, needed to be revised in March 2014. The second time, a cadaver ligament was transplanted into his elbow.
So, for the sports medicine crowd, Beachy’s four innings of work against the Milwaukee Brewers added to the relatively short pile of data on multiple Tommy John recipients who have made it back.
