Andre Ethier comes through in a new role for LA Dodgers

LOS ANGELES >> In the span of a few months, Andre Ethier went from everyday left fielder to stay-at-home dad to designated fake pinch hitter.

And then, on Tuesday, clutch postseason performer.

The transformation couldn’t have come any sooner for the Dodgers.

Ethier singled with two outs in the eighth inning against Washington Nationals reliever Blake Treinen. The next batter, Chase Utley, singled to drive in Andrew Toles with the winning run in Game 4 of the National League Division Series.

It was Ethier’s first actual plate appearance in the series after making a couple cameos in the on-deck circle in Games 1 and 3.
