I am going to preface this by saying that this is my opinion based upon some generally available information and a some inside information not available to everyone. Believe it or not! I will say that I don’t have the sources I used to, but this is based on past sources. So here goes: I have never been a Mattingly fan, but I will acknowledge that he is a nice guy. This isn’t personal. It’s about management style. I believe that a lot of the Dodgers problems in relation to situational hitting, moving runners, baserunning and just plain choking in the clutch started in 2008 when Joe Torre was named manager and his sidekick Don Mattingly followed him.
