On this date 25 years ago, Kevin Gross etched himself in Dodgers lore by throwing a no-hitter, beating the Giants 2-0 at Dodger Stadium.

Gross was a 31-year-old journeyman in his second season with the Dodgers in 1992. He entered the game on Aug. 17 against the rival Giants just 5-12 though with a respectable 3.59 ERA in his 25 games, including 21 starts.

“I told my coaches before the game I’ve never understood why this guy didn’t win more ballgames,” San Francisco manager Roger Craig told the Associated Press after the no-hitter.
