Alex Guerrero could be a useful trade chip for the Los Angeles Dodgers as they try to acquire a starting pitcher by the trade deadline, but an opt-out clause could make dealing him a bit tricky.
If he is dealt, the team that acquires him could only control him for a few months (if he opts out) instead of the 2 1/2 remaining years of his contract. He is only 28 years old and owed a reasonable $12 million for the next two seasons.
One factor working in LA's favor is Guerrero's frustration with his lack of playing time that may cause him to remove the contract clause if the Dodgers paid him to do so, according to a source.
