The Dodgers emerged as the the favorite to land Darvish earlier in the day and ultimately were able to get a deal done. Several other teams, including the Cleveland Indians and Houston Astros, also tried to acquire Darvish today.
Darvish is set to be a free agent after the season, and as such, the Rangers were motivated to move him. However, they expect to be able to re-sign him on the open market this offseason, which had teams hesitant about sending top prospects to Texas for him.
Darvish is 6-9 with a 4.01 ERA and 148 strikeouts in 22 starts this season.
Los Angeles also acquired Tony Watson from the Pittsburgh Pirates before the deadline.
