The San Diego Padres are currently deliberating whether to accept or void their recent trade for Los Angeles Dodgers outfielder Matt Kemp after a physical revealed severe arthritis in both of Kemp's hips, per a USA Today report.
Per USA Today's Bob Nightengale, "Kemp's physical that was taken Tuesday revealed the arthritis, which caught him by surprise. The Padres' physicians now are discussing whether the arthritis would impact his career."
The Padres and Dodgers agreed to a trade just a week ago that would ship Kemp, catcher Tim Federowicz and $32 million to San Diego in exchange for catcher Yasmani Grandal and pitching prospects Joe Wieland and Zach Eflin.
If the Kemp deal doesn't go through, the Dodgers will have to rework their trade for Philadelphia Phillies shortstop Jimmy Rollins since that deal included the contract of Eflin.
The San Diego Padres have till Thursday to inform the Dodgers of their intentions. Stay tuned.
