In this Dodgers rumors and news update, the Los Angeles Dodgers are reportedly emerging as a top potential trade destination for Boston Red Sox ace Jon Lester with less than 48 hours until the July 31st non-waiver trade deadline.
According to CBS Sports' Jon Heyman, the Dodgers are the "presumed favorite" with one anonymous GM indicating that Los Angeles presents the "best fit" out of all the potential trade scenarios currently out there:
However, Heyman isn't so sure that the Dodgers will be willing to part with the prospects necessary to pick up the 30-year-old lefty - especially if he only ends up wearing a Dodgers uniform for a shade over two months:
The Dodgers are the best fit in terms of prospects, that is true, but it still remains to be seen how aggressive the Dodgers will be for a rental pitcher, especially a rental pitcher who might be a No. 3 starter for them. The Red Sox are said to want top shortstop prospect Corey Seager or top outfielder prospect Joc Pederson back for Lester, and it's questionable whether LA would consider even Pederson, much less Seager, who's thought to be basically untouchable, especially for a rental.
GM Ned Colletti has echoed Heyman's sentiment previously, unwilling to set the Dodgers' farm system back for a quick jolt of (pitching) talent. As the deadline approaches, however, it will be interesting to see if that reflects Colletti's true feelings or if he was playing the media game that most general managers engage in during this time of year.
