PLAYA VISTA – Two summers ago, the Clippers were armed with a pair of minimum contracts, and Coach Doc Rivers had his eyes set on a pair of young, promising players looking for a new team.
Both Al-Farouq Aminu and Ed Davis were 2010 lottery picks, and both bounced around the league.
Aminu, originally a Clippers pick, was included in the team’s trade for Chris Paul. After three so-so years in New Orleans, Rivers wanted him back.
Davis traveled a similar road, getting sent from Toronto to Memphis in a trade for Rudy Gay, and after a couple of forgettable years with the Grizzlies, he was set to hit free agency.
