PLACENTIA – Baseball is a fickle game.
Fourth-ranked Mission Viejo was a benefactor of the game’s strange nature Tuesday.
With only one hit, Mission Viejo battled No. 6 El Dorado into the ninth inning of a scoreless game before Matt Austin scored from third on a two-out wild pitch to put the Diablos ahead for the win, 1-0, in the second round of the National Classic at El Dorado High.
“It’s high school baseball,” Mission Viejo coach Chris Ashbach said. “It’s baseball in general. I’ve been doing this 20 years, and I’ve seen weirder.
