Apartment complex residents have been asking Fullerton leaders to lift overnight bans on parking so they can leave their cars in front of their homes, but concerns about increased crime and loitering have officials taking a deep look at the issue before they make a citywide change.
The City Council held off earlier this month on temporarily suspending the enforcement of the 2 a.m. to 5 a.m. citywide ban to give staff time to collect community input and research issues. Council members said they were willing to look at case-by-case changes in the meantime.
Mayor Bruce Whitaker cited a fear of “new habit patterns that would be created” in otherwise safe neighborhoods while overnight street parking was allowed.
