There are a lot of places where Blake Griffin enjoyed icon status before he started turning up on Aron Baynes’ radar like a pterodactyl from hell.
Los Angeles just didn’t happen to be one.
Clipper fans loved him. Unfortunately, Clipper Nation isn’t much bigger than Luxembourg, with just enough people to fill Staples Center and account for this season’s 1.1 Nielsen rating (down 13% from last season).
Lakers fans, who number in the millions, took a distinctly skeptical view, or hated him, gnashing their teeth at everything about him.
If the real problem was that he was on the wrong team, this comment on the LakerNation fan site in 2013 was only a little over the top in expressing their resentment:
