The Los Angeles Clippers had a disappointing end to their season, losing to the Houston Rockets in the Western Conference Semifinals after holding a 3-1 series lead. However, it’s clear the Clippers are legitimate title contenders. Who could help them get over the top next year?
SF Paul Pierce, Washington Wizards
Pierce has incredibly strong ties with Clippers head coach Doc Rivers from their time together with the Celtics, and Los Angeles may give him the best chance to win a championship before he retires. He is contemplating retirement, but the Clippers will do everything they can to convince him to play one more season for another title.
C Robin Lopez, Portland Trail Blazers
The Clippers have been looking for a third big man they can confidently add to their rotation, and while Glen Davis has carved out a nice role niche, Los Angeles needs more size. Enter Lopez, who’s a true seven-footer and a hard-nosed defender that doesn’t expect any plays to be called for him on the offensive end. Los Angeles would gladly give some money to a guy who’s a proven commodity in the league and a great locker room guy.
SF/PF Wilson Chandler, Denver Nuggets
Denver was pushing hard but failed to find a partner for Chandler at the trade deadline, and they probably won’t pick up his team option for next season as they try to rebuild their team. His long-range shooting ability (nearly two made threes a game) would open up driving lanes, though he is still effective on the boards (5.9 rpg). His versatility as a small-ball four would be great off the bench, and an upgrade over Glen Davis in the Clippers' system.
