The Los Angeles Clippers had a disappointing end to their season, losing to the Houston Rockets in the Western Conference Semifinals after holding a 3-1 series lead. However, it’s clear the Clippers are legitimate title contenders - if they can make the right moves this offseason. Here are their three biggest storylines this summer:
1) DeAndre Jordan's free agency
Jordan will be one of the most sought-after free agents this offseason with several teams pursuing his services. However, all signs point to Jordan returning to the Clippers next year. Despite his reported rift with point guard Chris Paul, head coach and general manager Doc Rivers said Los Angeles plans to offer Jordan a max deal – which will be longer and worth more money than anyone else can offer him. Either way, they need him back to be contenders again next year.
2) Can the Clippers add depth?
Los Angeles' biggest Achilles heel in the postseason was their significant lack of depth, particularly in the post. Jamal Crawford and Austin Rivers proved their worth in the backcourt, but that was essentially the end of the bench for the Clippers. Look for them to go after a cheap versatile forward to play stretch four off the bench.
3) Do the Clippers hate Chris Paul?
Not only is Jordan reportedly having a rift with Paul, Blake Griffin also got into a similar tiff with Paul during the season. They were eventually able to iron things out, but this is troubling trend for the Clippers. It'll be interesting to see how/if these rumors progress this offseason.
