The Los Angeles Clippers had a disappointing end to their season, losing to the Houston Rockets in the Western Conference Semifinals after holding a 3-1 series lead. However, it's clear the Clippers are legitimate title contenders. Who are they targeting to help them get over the top next year?
C DeAndre Jordan, Los Angeles Clippers
Keeping DeAndre Jordan in town is the Clippers' unquestioned top priority this offseason. Teams have cap space to give him close to max deal if they so choose, and while that may seem like an overpay, Jordan’s elite rebounding and shot-blocking abilities would greatly improve any team. Los Angeles' entire defense is based around Jordan's capabilities, and they need him if they want to stay among the Western Conference elite.
Robin Lopez, C, Portland Trail Blazers
The Clippers have been looking for a third big man they can confidently add to their rotation, and while Glen Davis has carved out a nice role niche, Los Angeles needs more size. Enter Lopez, who’s a true seven-footer and a hard-nosed defender that doesn’t expect any plays to be called for him on the offensive end. Los Angeles would gladly give some money to a guy who’s a proven commodity in the league and a great locker room guy.
SF Mike Dunleavy Jr.
The Clippers desperately need to add a wing player to come off the bench, and Dunleavy might be the cheapest, best option available. Dunleavy is a great Weapon X to have when the team needs to give J.J. Redick and Matt Barnes a rest, and he’s skilled enough as a defender to add some lockdown skills in the mid-range. If they don’t want to pay for Dunleavy, keep an eye on Minnesota’s Chase Budinger as a budget option.
