At a press conference on Tuesday, NBA Commissioner Adam Silver announced the penalties leveled against Donald Sterling, and the league didn't pull any punches.
Donald Sterling has been banned from the NBA for life, effective immediately. The NBA will also fine Sterling $2.5 million, the maximum allowed under the NBA's constitution, and the league owners will do everything in their power to force Sterling into a sale.
"The man whose voice is heard on that recording, and a second recording released this weekend, is Mr. Sterling," Silver said, prior to announcing his punishment.
Sterling is banned from Clippers games, the Clippers facility, any league or team activities, and any other Clippers-related events. Sterling was informed of the decision shortly before the press conference, and has not issued a response as of yet.
When Silver was asked if Sterling had expressed any regret or remorse for his comments, his response was terse:
"Mr. Sterling has not expressed those views to me."
"My message to the Clippers fans is that this league is far bigger than any one owner."
