The season is over the Los Angeles Clippers, and they've turned their attention toward the offseason. The Clippers made the playoffs last year, but are chasing a title. The Clippers have little cap space, but might be able to go after a few free agents this offseason, if they so choose.
While Los Angeles would love to land Kevin Durant, he's not a realistic target at this point. We're ignoring the Clippers' own free agents and instead focusing on other team's players. That's an important designation, because the Clippers will likely resign the likes of Jeff Green, Austin Rivers and Jamal Crawford instead of going out and adding other free agents. With that in mind, here are three realistic free agent targets for the Clippers this offseason.
3. Kent Bazemore
Bazemore has become a totally different player since heading East to Atlanta, developing into a true 3-and-D player. That's exactly what the Clippers need, especially if players like Luc Richard Mbah a Moute or Wesley Johnson leave. While Bazmore is ideally a small forward, and he'd be an upgrade that at spot. However, Bazemore will be coveted this offseason and might be too expensive for LA.
2. Arron Afflalo
Plan is to bring back Jamal Crawford (and Austin Rivers), but Afflalo could be a decent Plan B. Afflalo struggled late this year with the Knicks, but can still contribute as a shooter and solid defender. While he does prefer starting to coming off the bench, he could become a solid sixth man for a team like the Clippers. Afflalo played at UCLA, making this a bit of homecoming signing.
1. Josh Smith
Smith was actually okay during his brief stint in Los Angeles last year, posting 12 points and six rebounds per game. He stopped taking so many 3-pointers and was surprisingly efficient. But he went back to Houston this year and regressed. Smith is still a risky signing, but Doc Rivers seemed to get the most out of him. If Jeff Green or Cole Aldrich leave, Smith going to Los Angeles could be the best option for both parties.
