With the 90th-overall selection in the third round of the 2019 NFL Draft, the Los Angeles Chargers selected Sioux Falls (SD) offensive tackle Trey Pipkins.
This selection is by far the most surprising of the Chargers’ draft up to this point. With several names on the board at other position of need (cornerback, defensive interior, offensive tackle), the team decided to select a Division II player.
It’s a big need, don’t get me wrong. More surprising at the moment than disappointing simply due to shock factor. Pipkins is more highly-regarded by analysts than I initially let on.
