Good morning.
In this ESPN Insider piece, draft analyst Todd McShay has the San Diego Chargers selecting Mississippi defensive tackle Robert Nkemdiche with the third overall pick in his first mock for the 2016 draft.
My take: I like the fit in terms of scheme. The Chargers need a disruptor inside, and at 6-foot-4 and 296 pounds, Nkemdiche can do that.
However, the Chargers are risk-averse and will not take someone like Nkemdiche this high if he cannot stay out of trouble. I know No. 3 is high to take a defensive back, but with Eric Weddle likely moving on free agency, I think adding a playmaker in the back end of San Diego’s defense like Florida State defensive back Jalen Ramsey makes some sense.
