In that one, the Judases were set to draft 15th overall, and fledgling GM A.J. Smith wanted USC safety Troy Polamalu with his maiden pick. Coach Marty Schottenheimer, who still had clout, thought Polamalu too short. So Smith acquiesced and traded down to 30.

Pittsburgh drafted Troy, a game-changer who will be a Hall of Famer.
