Stadium proponents can stop focusing on Faulconer

Time to regroup, Chargers fans.

The score is something like 58.2 to zero. And actually, despite the reality that the game has hardly begun, it might be a bigger deficit than that.

See, San Diego Mayor Kevin Faulconer won reelection Tuesday night with 58.2 percent of the vote. In a three-person race, that’s more than a mandate. It’s a rout. The result wasn’t shocking. The worst Faulconer was going to do was miss outright victory by a smidge and have to vie again in a November runoff.

But it’s noteworthy that the mayor can move on about the business of running the city unfettered despite an intrepidly pesky effort by various citizen (fan and stadium supporter) groups to get the word out in recent months that, essentially, a vote for Faulconer was a vote against a Chargers stadium.
