The Chargers had the misfortune of being the opponent Sunday when the Minnesota Vikings unveiled their $1.1 billion stadium and slippery new synthetic field.
The Vikings presented the Chargers with excellent competition to prepare them for the season opener Sept. 11 at Arrowhead Stadium.
The playing surface was another story.
Several players lost their footing on the slick artificial surface. Quarterback Mike Bercovici had difficulties planting, as did other players.
The condition of the field, which is expected to improve as it gets broken in, was a delicate subject because Chargers ownership is trying to get a new stadium built in San Diego.
