Although the late Junior Seau’s name will forever be connected with football, the former San Diego Chargers linebacker also loved to surf.
To celebrate his connection with the ocean, the Junior Seau Foundation on Thursday donated $250,000 to establish an adaptive surfing program for children with physical disabilities. The money, awarded to the Challenged Athletes Foundation in San Diego, will be used to purchase surfboards, Waveskis, beach wheelchairs, gear and a custom trailer to carry the equipment, as well as coaching and travel grants for children’s surf camps and clinics.
The Junior Seau Foundation Adaptive Surf Program, presented by CAF, will host its inaugural kids camp on July 9, in collaboration with the Switchfoot BRO-AM at Moonlight Beach in Encinitas.
