The Chargers had their fan base intrigued during the preseason when the team was testing out some offensive and defensive linemen as potential fullbacks. Former fifth-round pick Jordan McFadden got plenty of looks during training camp and the first preseason game against the Seahawks. Later on, defensive tackle Scott Matlock, the team’s sixth-round pick in 2023, also began to earn some reps in the backfield.
But as of now, the Chargers have officially tagged Matlock as the team’s starting fullback while also keeping him in the defensive line rotation. According to the team’s social media page and the photos from Picture Day, Matlock will also be switching his number from 99 to 44.
