There are phrases Chargers coach Mike McCoy and defensive coordinator John Pagano do not say casually, words they reserve for the men in their careers who they hold to the highest regard, players who make their jobs easier each week.
One has Philip Rivers leading his offense and team.
“He’s special,” McCoy said. “You can’t say enough about the guy.”
The other has Jason Verrett roaming his secondary.
“Is he the best cornerback in the National Football League?” Pagano said. “Yes. It’s not even close. That’s how I feel.
