The Oakland Raiders have filed relocation papers requesting approval for a move to Las Vegas, the next step toward the NFL having three teams move from their longtime homes in the past two years.
The filing, which has been considered inevitable for months, also reinforces the widely held belief around the NFL that the Chargers did not have to decide to move to Los Angeles when they did.
Chargers chairman Dean Spanos notified the league last Wednesday he was exercising his option to uproot a franchise that had been in San Diego since 1961.
