Jayson Williams will board the “5 North Bolt” bus Sunday morning for the same reason so many other people think such an action is traitorous and lecherous.
And where a sense of loss that sort of unrequited devotion has brought has turned off thousands of fans, many declaring the team dead to them, Williams is among those who can't walk away.
Oh, he thought he was going to do so on Jan. 12.
“I was done with the Chargers,” Williams said this week, recalling his hearing the news the team was relocating to Los Angeles.
The next day, though, Williams heard a radio interview in which Philip Rivers explained his profound sadness that his team was leaving his adopted hometown, how much he would miss playing in San Diego and how horribly he felt for the fans here – and also how he would be giving all he had to Chargers fans in Los Angeles.
