San Diego Union-Tribune sports columnist Nick Canepa has ranted and raged both eloquently and humorously for years about the Chargers. Now words attributed to him will be appearing in the Oxford English Dictionary for posterity.
Say what?
Yes, the initial use of the phrase, “clock management,” has been traced by Oxford dictionary researchers to Canepa’s sports coverage 35 years ago this week in The Tribune. The phrase is being added to the esteemed English language compendium first published in 1884 and continuously expanded by Oxford University Press in Great Britain. The dictionary now fills 20 volumes, with quarterly updates online, and it includes terms dating back to the earliest records of the English language.
