Former NFL running backs Terrell Davis and LaDainian Tomlinson recently shared a bond that goes beyond their San Diego backgrounds and enshrinement in the Pro Football Hall of Fame.
Both men plunged into the country’s roiling waters of racial injustice and protest.
Tomlinson, in comments last weekend, spoke out against the NFL’s treatment of Colin Kaepernick after the quarterback kneeled in 2016 during the national anthem.
In other words, as an employee of the NFL Network, where Davis is a colleague, Tomlinson was criticizing leadership within a league that makes his job possible.
“It’s unfortunate and it’s sad and it’s a black eye on our league, no question about it,” the former San Diego Chargers star told Drew Davison of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram.
