Welcome to draft season! This is the seventh of 11 positional breakdowns leading up to the NFL Draft (April 25-27). Here are my top 10 safeties:
1. Johnathan Abram (Sr., Mississippi St., 5-foot-11, 215 pounds)
You can’t escape once you’re targeted. Abram is an intimidating hitter who can handle all of the “big nickel” duties. He led the Bulldogs with 99 tackles (nine for loss), five pass breakups, three sacks, two interceptions and a forced fumble. Projected: 1st or 2nd round
2. Chauncey Gardner-Johnson (Jr., Florida, 5-11, 210)
An athletic free safety with cornerback skills.
