COSTA MESA, Calif. -- Los Angeles Chargers cornerback J.C. Jackson is trending positive in his recovery from ankle surgery 15 days ago and is "day to day," coach Brandon Staley said Wednesday.
The 49ers open the season against the division-rival Las Vegas Raiders on Sunday at SoFi Stadium.
"J.C.'s boot is off, he was running yesterday and he is day-to-day," Staley said.
Jackson, who the Chargers signed to a five-year, $82.5 million deal in free agency, underwent surgery Aug. 23 after feeling discomfort in his ankle during practices and was given a timetable of two to four weeks to return.
