According to the Orange County Register’s Jack Wang, the Los Angeles Chargers have interviewed the Richard Smith for their open linebackers coach position. Smith was recently relieved of his position as the Atlanta Falcons defensive coordinator following the team’s historic collapse in the second half of Super Bowl LI against the New England Patriots. He previously coached the linebackers for the Denver Broncos and Carolina Panthers.
Robert Saleh, formerly of the Jacksonville Jaguars, was originally considered the favorite to take over as the linebackers coach for the Chargers, but given that the San Francisco 49ers have expressed interest in him as their defensive coordinator, the Chargers are continuing to look at other options such as Smith.
