Kellen Clemens fending off competition for Chargers' No. 2 QB job

SAN DIEGO -- Fighting for a job in the NFL is old hat for Kellen Clemens.

So when San Diego Chargers head coach Mike McCoy indicated there was an open competition for the No. 2 quarterback job behind Philip Rivers, the University of Oregon product shrugged his shoulders and got to work.

Well, from this vantage point, that battle never really materialized, as Clemens has clearly outperformed Zach Mettenberger and undrafted rookie Mike Bercovici.

At 33 years old, Clemens still has his fastball and a better overall grasp of offensive coordinator Ken Whisenhunt’s complex offense.
