Justin Herbert got a lot of unjustified flack for his production through the first month and a half of the season. His number were down across the board and many simply wrote it off that he simply wasn’t playing well, refusing to think deeper about the why or provide any context (i.e., Greg Roman and Jim Harbaugh run-heavy offensive approach).
But in the last two weeks, with the run game refusing to “pop” the way Harbaugh is waiting for, Roman allowed Herbert a bit more freedom to toss the rock around and it led to him averaging 314 passing yards over the past two weeks.
