They open their first season as L.A. Judases next Monday night in Denver, where their predecessors, the San Diego Chargers, found success about as often as a White House advisor.
It will be our first September without professional football since I was in junior high. Nearly three generations.
Ever the optimist, I believe they will return one day, when Dean Spanos tires of playing Ricky Ricardo to Stan Kroenke’s Fred Mertz, gets out, sells to a billionaire with assets other than a team who knows it won’t work there, and moves to the country.
Until then, I will continue to follow the Judases, and reserve the right to reserve my fondest memories of them.
