The California state medical board has accused former Chargers doctor David Chao of not properly documenting prescriptions of a sleep drug to Junior Seau, in months leading up to Seau’s death four years ago.
San Diego’s 10news.com and USA TODAY reported the complaint that accuses Chao of gross negligence.
A coroner’s report ruled out Ambien, the sleep drug that Chao prescribed, as a cause or factor in Seau’s death.
Seau, who spent most of his Hall of Fame career with the Chargers, fought depression and had trouble sleeping before his suicide.
"The use of Ambien is associated with increased incidence of impaired driving and completed suicide," said the complaint, filed last week.
