Jason Verrett has kept close over the past week, standing on the sideline during games and on the field during practices, a gesture of support for teammates and his fellow defensive backs while sidelined to injury.
The Chargers cornerback was on the practice field again Monday.
He won’t be Wednesday. Instead, he’ll take the next step to ensure that, come 2017, he’ll be beside them in earnest.
Verrett is scheduled to undergo reconstructive surgery for a torn anterior cruciate ligament this Wednesday, sources said Monday. He’ll be the latest Chargers player to do so.
