COSTA MESA, Calif. -- One of the few true competitions for a starting job on the Los Angeles Chargers’ roster is between veterans Dwight Lowery and Tre' Boston at free safety.
Entering his 10th season, Lowery is the incumbent. He played a team-high 961 snaps on defense for the Chargers last season. Lowery, 31, also has experience with defensive coordinator Gus Bradley and his Seattle Cover 3 scheme from his time with the Jacksonville Jaguars.
“I think the competition is good,” Lowery said. “There’s things I feel that I can do as a football player that I feel confident in, and obviously there’s things that Tre does well.
