When Chargers Hall of Fame quarterback Dan Fouts asked not to work the team’s exhibition telecasts last summer, there were some skeptics who believed it was because a week before the announcement he had told a San Diego radio station: “Don’t ever refer to me as a Los Angeles Charger.”
However, a team spokesman said then the move was due to Fouts’ schedule and not related in any way to the comments. The spokesman also said the club hoped Fouts would return to work this year with LaDainian Tomlinson and Spero Dedes — which is exactly what will happen beginning with Thursday’s opener at Arizona (available in San Diego on KFMB Channel 8).
