Philip Rivers should feel good about a familiar newcomer to his team.
The San Diegan’s new backup with the Chargers, former NFL starter Tyrod Taylor, looks like a good No. 2.
Taylor showed Thursday in the exhibition opener he can still make plays — from the pocket, as a passer on the run and as a rusher.
He started for Rivers, who worked some 80 snaps last week in joint practices against the NFC-champion Rams and who at 37 seeks his first Super Bowl.
Rivers has made 208 consecutive starts, the longest active streak in the NFL.
