The football mission lives on for Luis Perez, who slept with a football as a boy in Chula Vista and fancied himself a quarterback like Drew Brees and Philip Rivers of the San Diego Chargers.
Perez, 25, has joined the Los Angeles Wildcats of the XFL, a pro outfit that plans a February launch.
“An opportunity to play football, you’ve got to go for it, right?” Perez said Wednesday.
Making him an outlier — perhaps his own nation — among pro quarterbacks, Perez had no football career in high school.
He said he’s “super stoked” to get cracking again following brief spells with the Philadelphia Eagles and Detroit Lions this year on the heels of quarterbacking the Birmingham Iron of the Alliance of American Football.
