One of the best-case scenarios about the 2025 offseason for the Chargers would have involved landing one of the best available free agent wide receivers (Tee Higgins, Chris Godwin) on top of being able to sign right guard Trey Smith.
Unfortunately, the latter part of that dream has been crushed as the Chiefs are reportedly using the franchise tag on Smith to allow both sides to continue hammering out a long-term deal for one of the best guards in the NFL.
The tag will take Smith off the market and pay him $23.4 million during the 2025 season.
