In bed with crutches nearby, former San Diego Chargers draftee Scott Chandler posted a selfie two years ago.
"Another knee surgery yesterday,” Chandler wrote on Facebook. “This game gives and takes. This surgery will take me out of next season, and probably keep me from playing again.”
Chandler, indeed, was done.
Antonio Gates was preparing for his fifth NFL season in San Diego when Chandler, a tight end as well, arrived as a fourth-round draftee from Iowa. The year was 2007.
If Gates plays this year, it’ll be his 16th season.
