Murphy Canyon had a busy few weeks.
The Chargers dumped the salaries of such backups as linebacker Donald Butler and running back Donald Brown. They retained some of their free agents, including right tackle Joe Barksdale and tight end Antonio Gates, while allowing others to walk. And they added new blood with wide receiver Travis Benjamin, nose tackle Brandon Mebane, safety Dwight Lowery and cornerback Casey Hayward.
The frenzy has slowed.
The dust is settling.
It reveals a front office still just getting started.
Early this month, the Chargers had more than $30 million in salary-cap space.
