Chargers' Rivers on beating Broncos: 'It felt a little bit more like an escape'

SAN DIEGO -- In earning a hard-fought win over the Denver Broncos, one thing remains abundantly clear: The San Diego Chargers are a work in progress when it comes to putting teams away.

The Chargers held a double-digit lead in the fourth quarter for the fourth time this season, leading 21-3 with about 12 minutes left.

Yet that lead never felt safe, and somehow San Diego managed to let most of its advantage slip away.

When Broncos receiver Jordan Taylor recovered an onside kick with 27 seconds left, trailing 21-13, Philip Rivers couldn’t breathe easy on the sideline until Trevor Siemian’s final Hail Mary pass to Taylor was knocked down by safety Dexter McCoil to end the game.
